The drawings will be composed of a few parts which can be viewed separately, but will actually be part of a whole.
The drawings deal with movement towards emptiness, nothingness (le néant, in Sartre's words), by a process of duplication which includes hybridization. The figures in the drawings are a continuation of a
series of drawings I did in the past - Alices - but this time they will be implanted within the reflections of a made-up nature.
The wandering figure is taken from a video art I made before and thus, the video project becomes my story board for the drawings, reversing the normal order of things.
My wish is to present a yearning for - to me - non-existent nature, especially watery nature which is so rare in the place where I live. Because of its absence from my physical world-view,
I find myself having to re-invent this nature and thus pacify this vacuum within me.
The yearning for nature is at the center of my work. It is a journey, a quest if you will, of an illusioned, unattainable goal. Being in a state of nothingness allows me to concentrate on the illusions
of the searcher and the creation of her intimate, yet made-up world.
The yearning itself becomes transformed from obsessive and dramatic to a state of calm, meditative, introspective desire.
I am indebted to Jean-Jacques Rousseau, whose meditations on nature and wandering have illuminated the path of my own quest and filled me with a sense of belonging.
