Vladimira Klumpar Bio

Vladimíra Klumpar began her studies at the Specialized Glassmaking High School in Železný Brod and finished nearly ten years later at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague under the teaching of Professor Stanislav Libenský. Her cast glass objects are greatly influenced by her studies about the malleable properties of glass, interior and exterior form, color and light density, and the importance of nature as the fundamental guide to shape and proportion.

Living between homes in the United States, Mexico, and the Czech Republic, as well as her extensive travels in the mountains of Nepal and Tibet, it is no surprise that Klumpar’s sculptures re-examine nature. They are inspired by the fantastically rich world of organic forms, revealing a playful lightness and a positive inner charge. There is an elegant harmony of outlines and sculptural forms as they reach and twist through space.

Klumpar is the recipient of the 1991 New England Artist Foundation Fellowship, the 1991 Massachusetts Artist Foundation Fellowship, and the 1997 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant. Klumpar’s works have been exhibited in many galleries throughout Europe and the United States. Her works can be found in the collections of Museum of Art, Liberec, Czech Republic, Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, North Carolina, American Arts and Craft Museum, New York, New York, and Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York.
